HAM 317/318 Literature Media Project
Aims:
Students undertaking HAM317 Literature Media project A (semester 1) and HAM318 Media Project B (semester 2) undertake
EITHER
- the design and implementation of an independently developed project
OR
- work experience.
This subject is designed to extend the skills acquired by students in literature, radio and electronic writing and to provide an opportunity for students to gain experience in the workplace and to work independently as freelance practitioners.
Students are encouraged, where possible, to collaborate on projects.
Students undertaking work experience should aim to complete a minimum of one week or 35 hours of work experience over the semester. This can undertaken in a block or in smaller increments over the semester.
Assessment:
Students undertaking projects need to write a statement of intention (no longer than 500 words) outlining the nature and extent of the project they wish to undertake and how they intend to complete the project by the due date.
Students wishing to undertake work experience need to write a statement of intention outlining the name of a contact person at the organisation they will work for and the dates that they intend to do it.
All necessary documentation and insurance information is available here.
(Swinburne students are fully covered by our liability insurance when they are on voluntary work placements)
If you are in the process of negotiating a placement but have not yet secured it by the time that the Statement of Intention is due, you must still write a statement of intention to this effect outlining what steps you are taking to secure a placement.

Final Assessment Requirements
Students undertaking a project should submit the project and a project reflection to their supervisor. The reflection should be 800 – 1000 words and should outline what you have learned from the construction of the project, what you feel satisfied with in terms of the outcome of your project and how you might have improved it. It should also include a production journal – that is, a diary of what you did and when during the creation of the project (this is counted as part of the 800 – 1000 words). If you are working in a group, then each person must submit an individual reflection with the final project.
Students undertaking a placement should keep a diary of their work experience and keep samples of any work produced during the placement. At the end of the placement (or by the due date – whichever comes first) you must submit a reflection of 800 – 1000 words that examines what you have learned from the experience. You can submit the reflection, diary and any work samples as either a hard copy portfolio or an online portfolio/blog. If you are submitting a link to the work, please ensure that it works and that your supervisor can access it easily.
Please take care with your final submissions as they will be displayed at a PROJECT SHOWCASE at the end of the year.
DUE DATE for final submission is FRIDAY 1 June 2012
PLEASE NOTE: This subject is assessed as a PASS/FAIL only.
A reminder to those students that missed the first and only class for the subject and there are NO ONGOING CLASSES in this subject.
