Description of assessment
Portfolio:
Students will be required to be present in class to complete the assessment.
The portfolio will consist of:
(a) Blog responses to class set readings
(b) Your three best writing exercises completed in class
(c) Media conference exercise
Students must write a hard news story according to information given to them via short press release and 15 minute media conference. Students will be given the opportunity to ask questions as in a real media conference and will have the duration of the tutorial to write a hard news story.
Short news story:
Students will find, research and write a hard or soft news story of no more than 400 words for publication.
This is a news story based on your own original research. You must find a story, research it, complete at least two interviews (more if needed) and write the piece. The story will be published on Motif, or an Infoxchange project.
Feature Story:
The largest piece of assessment is an extended feature piece of 1500 words due on Monday, June 9 at no later than 7pm.
This story will be published.
