After completing his doctorate in politics in 2006, Colm began working at Community Radio 3CR.  He now is a freelance radio documentary producer and casual lecturer/tutor in radio journalism at Swinburne and Monash Universities.  His first documentary Awakening from History? was a joint-winner of a prestigious Walkley Award for Journalism in 2006. It explores intergenerational trauma in Northern Ireland along with the broader personal and community barriers to peace after prolonged social conflict.  His most recent work is La Frontera: a journey into the borderlands of Mexico and the United States.
